This video removes the mystery from the art of making a pen. Using the "Slim-Line" pen as a subject, each of the many steps in the making of the pen are shown and explained.
A description of the Spindle Gouge, how to use it, and how to sharpen it without using a jig are presented in this video.

Pen-2 Advanced Pencrafting 120 minutes)
A presentation of the techniques for making custom writing instruments from the kits parts. A partial list of contents are:
- Removing the center-band
- Sharpening the Skew Chisel
- Making our own center band
- No clip, no finial, solid top
- We all make mistakes,
- The Ameroclassic ballpoint
- Fountain Pens & Rollerballs
Some of the pens that were made during this presentation are shown in the video label above.
All of the pen finishes are here, from polished bare wood to Enduro. The topics include: Sanding, Waxes, Shellac, Buffing, Lacquer, CA Glue, Waterlox, Enduro, Acrylic Pen Blanks, and stabilized Wood.
The argument about which finish is the hardest and most durable is resolved with a simple test that the viewer can perform for themselves.

Learn how to make these three stylish pens from the "Slim-Line" kit. I use the "StreamLine version for a better looking clip.
The "Ultimate Russ-Line" (left) requires grinding 7mm drill to shape for the lower barrel, and a 7mm mandrel is modified to turn the pen. Both are simple tasks with a grinding wheel, and they are shown in detail.
Description of video contents:
(left) The Ultimate Russ-Line is an advanced version of the original "Russ-Line" shown in the video, "Advanced Pencrafting", and here on the Website. The tip has been enclosed by using the metal tip inside of the wood for strength. Detailed instruction shows how to grind the drill bit to make the special hole in the lower barrel, and how to modify a standard 7mm mandrel for making this pen. This pen also features an overlap between the cap and pen at the split in the center, and a recessed cap finial.
(middle) The Jay-Line, named after one of its originators, is a new pen for me. It is a highly stylized "Slim-Line" pen with a bigger barrel and grip for easier writing. The twist is between the wood and the plastic tip.
(right) I refer to this pen as one "with a different twist". The split for twisting the transmission has been moved down to the separation between the tip and the pen, makinging the entire pen the upper barrel. A secondary tube is used for strength, and all parts are those that come with the StreamLine (or SlimLine) kit. It can be made as shown, or with a solid piece of wood.

Pen-4 The "Collectors Pen"120 min
This video removes the mystery of the closed end, closed cap, and a recessed clip. You are shown how do these kit modifications without having to buy any special mandrels or other tools. These pens are made with a 7mm mandrel that is modified in less than 3-minutes with a file, and a standard kit bushing on the open end. The Baron kit is shown, but other kits are discussed, including the Russ-Line (SlimLine) on the right in this photo.
You are shown how to modify and use the four clips shown in the photo - (l to r) the Baron clip, the Ameroclassic, the Perfect Fit Convertible, and the StreamLine/Slim-Line - shown here on the Baron and RussLine pens.
